Tactile Tuesday Week 3

Hey, welcome to another week of Tactile Tuesday aka"stuff you need to check out because it's great".

This week I want to talk about my favorite gadget. Barnes & Noble's Nook. This ereader holds 1500 books by itself on it's 2GB of memory. If you need room for more you can get a 16GB memory card and it will store up to 17,500. This is of course strictly speaking of books. If you load it up with audio files and photos it will hold less. That's another great thing about it. You can listen to music or audiobooks. I don't have the attention span for audiobooks but I know some people who really seem to enjoy them. I have around 120 books on my Nook right now waiting to be read, after I read them I can delete them and get more books. It's like a never-ending bookstore that you can hold in your hands.

If you like Sudoku or Chess they are both included on the Nook. I don't care for either and exclusively use my Nook for reading. I have used the internet on it a couple of times but I have terribly clumsy fingers and I had to retype everything about a billion times before I got it right because of the small touch keyboard.

I can't imagine not reading for an entire day. I'm pretty sure that would be hell for me. I need to read and I need to blog. I have to escape my world and go into the book world. I have to purge my thoughts onto the page and get them far away from my mind.

If you love reading and do so frequently I suggest looking into an e-reader. Not only are they small and handy, they have the capacity to keep you reading for years without deleting a single book. They are also environmentally better because you aren't reading paper books anymore. I have only bought a few books since I got my Nook and that was because they weren't available in ebook format. I love books, don't get me wrong, I have a bookshelf completely full and stacks of them all over my bedroom, but having my next read in my hands without having to do anything but flick my finger is amazing.

Tactile Tuesday Week 2

Hey look! I remembered! Tactile Tuesday Week 2 coming at you! So this week I've decided to review/discuss some of the things I got for Christmas You can see what I got in it's entirety in the previous post. We're going to start off with my favorite cartoon ever...

Yes, Daria!

I received Daria: The Complete Series on DVD from my totally awesome mother. Daria was a kick ass cartoon on MTV for 5 seasons. I watched Daria religiously growing up and had a fabulous poster of her in my room. I related to Daria in pretty much every single way, I looked like her, I was sarcastic like her, I had a family rather similar to hers, and I was a teenager.

During the run of the show I was a loyal fan, even in the last season when I felt like everything I knew and loved about Daria had changed. Watching it back now, I understand it better, Daria grew up. I have too since then and now I can really appreciate her growth as a character. Back then I was annoyed at the changes, now I am appreciative.

The reason it took Daria so long to come out on DVD was they were battling about the rights to the music. I have to say that I don't particularly miss the original music, yes, it would have added a little something that would make me smile because grunge music is still my favorite music ever, but I am not devastated that I don't get to hear the Pumpkins, Hole, or Nirvana in the background of the show. Those old friends are all on my iPod anyway.

The next thing I want to review is For Audrey nail polish by China Glaze.

As soon as I found this color I was in love. I ran out and bought two bottles. This Tiffany inspired color is absolutely lovely. One coat would suffice if you just wanted to paint you nails but two really brings it to the true Tiffany color. The consistency is what you always get with China Glaze, not runny and not too thick, pretty much perfect.

That's it for now. I'll be back soon with more awesome things for you to check out. I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday and that the New Year brings about changes for the better for all of us.

Tactile Tuesday - you gotta get your hands on this!

So optimistically I'd like to update once a week with awesome things that I'm currently in love with, realistically I know that isn't going to happen so the name of this will change depending on what day it is but it will still be the same premise.

I declare today Tactile Tuesday!

As I mentioned earlier I'm in the nail tech program, this means I play with nail polish a lot. I just got a color that I am absolutely in love with. The strange thing is that I hate red, it's my least favorite color but this nail polish is absolutely beautiful. I typically don't wear red or pink on my nails because I find them predictable and boring so finding a red and actually loving it and wanting to wear it (over all my typical awesome greens and blacks and blues) is really saying something. The color is called "Color So Hot It Berns" and it's from the OPI Swiss Collection for Fall 2010. This red is bright and unlike any other red I've ever found. I love the intensity of the color. My original plan was to use this color for my candy cane nails for Christmas but it's so pretty by itself that I just can't bring myself to stripe the white over it.

Here is the bottle. If you Google you can see how it looks on nails. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Along with the rest of the world I've been crushing on Jenny Lewis for years. She's talented, adorable, and she was in THE WIZARD! Her music has helped me through some rough times. Imagine how excited I was when I saw that Portions for Foxes by her band Rilo Kiley was on Rockband 3! I've been rocking out to that one on bass singing into our new mic stand. It's not my favorite Rilo Kiley song but I DO love it and it's fun to sing. Anyway what I really wanted to talk about is Jenny & Johnny, Jenny's newest project with her adorable boyfriend Johnathon Rice. Their debut album "I'm Having Fun Now" is hands down my favorite CD from 2010. Here's a video of Jenny & Johnny performing on Conan the other night. Give them a listen if you haven't yet and if you don't already listen to Rilo Kiley & Jenny's solo albums you should check those out as well.

I watched Black Swan last night and it absolutely lived up to all of the hype that has been surrounding it. It was thrilling and moving despite figuring it out very early on. I was not disappointed for even a millisecond while watching it. It was perfectly done (which is kind of ironic wording if you've seen it). I've always loved Natalie, Mila, and Winona and maybe I'm going out on a limb here but I think this is all of their best work to date. I won't say anything else because I know I get pissy when some a-hole on the internet ruins a movie for me by saying just one small thing. GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

That's it for Tactile Tuesday. I hope you enjoy these things as much as I am.
